A leak through the body/body end connection of a metal-seated
ball valve can be caused by the following:
The body/body end bolts have inadequate torque.
Body studs and nut bearing surfaces must be properly
lubricated with a HD grease. As much as 50% of the applied nut torque
can be wasted in the case of improper lubrication.
Remove one nut at a time and lubricate the stud threads and the nut
side facing the body end. Torque each bolt to the required level.
Torque values for side-entry ball valves are found in the appropriate
manuals which can be requested from the Velan website.
For valves with a body seal, the body seal has a leak
path.
The body seal must be replaced. Contact Velan to order
a replacement body seal and to obtain the maintenance manual with
full replacement procedure.
For valves with a gasket, the gasket is damaged.
The gasket must be replaced. Contact Velan to order
a replacement gasket and to obtain the maintenance manual with full
replacement procedure.
For valves with a welded body/body end connection, the
weld has a leak path. This is usually the result of improper welding
procedure, a material mismatch or an unsuitable application.
Please contact Velan Field Engineering Services to review
welding procedures and application to determine root cause of the
problem and a suitable solution.
