Condensate left in the line can very quickly vaporize in the presence
of a high temperature fluid such as steam. This can cause a rapid
increase in the local pressure within the valve. Condensate can come
from many sources such as left over water from a hydro test or condensation
due to a drop in temperature . It is important to clear the pipes
and valves of condensate or account for it when determining the need
for over-pressure protection.
This type of leak can cause bolt stretching and gasket damage. Check
the gasket for signs of damage. Replace if necessary. Check the bolts
for stretching or any other kind of failure and replace if necessary.
Install bolts and torque down to the required values.
If extensive damage occurred when valve leaked through body/bonnet
connection, please contact Velan Field
Engineering Services.
