Non pre-compressed packing can cause loss of packing
torque upon cycling the valve unless the packing consolidation method
is used when installing the packing.
Insert one braided graphite packing ring followed by
the intermediate graphite packing rings and then another braided graphite
packing ring. Lower the gland bushing and check for positive engagement.
Torque down packing bolts to required level.
Cycle the valve approximately the length of the packing
chamber. First open then close and re-tighten the gland bolts to the
appropriate torque values. Repeat this step approximately four, five
times until the packings become fully consolidated (no longer lose
torque).
