diagnosis and suggested remedy

 

  Non pre-compressed packing can cause loss of packing torque upon cycling the valve unless the packing consolidation method is used when installing the packing.  
     
  packing consolidation method  
  1 Insert one braided graphite packing ring followed by the intermediate graphite packing rings and then another braided graphite packing ring. Lower the gland bushing and check for positive engagement.  
  2 Torque down packing bolts to required level.  
  3 Cycle the valve approximately the length of the packing chamber. First open then close and re-tighten the gland bolts to the appropriate torque values. Repeat this step approximately four, five times until the packings become fully consolidated (no longer lose torque).
